I got tired of football (or soccer) console games way back when Pro Evolution Soccer 2 was all the rage, some eleven years ago. The game was so popular and so 'great' according to everyone, except to me it seems. It was infuriating! The goals were all the same, the play was all the same, even. It felt like the whole thing was on rails, if you wanted to score a goal you would have to go through the exact same passage of play time and time again. Shoot from the same position with the same power and it will always be a goal. Unleash a through ball from the right position and it will always cut open a defense. Make a header in the right position in the penalty box and... you see where this is going.

It was robotic, predictable and mostly, it didn't feel like I was even playing football. I read another critic liken console football games to actually playing a game of checkers, where ultimately the winner is the guy who can think the most moves in advance. It was crap, and it was enough for me to turn my back on console football games for good. Well, at least until Fifa 14 came out. I'd been told by many friends that Fifa was now the must have football game (it was PES back in the day) and that it was much better now. I voiced my concerns about the 'on rails' gameplay and was reassured that it was different now - you could shoot from anywhere, everything was more fluid. My friend made a good case for the new game and I took the plunge and bought myself a copy. I discovered that I had brought virtually a carbon copy of PES2, albeit with next generation graphics and a few tweaks in the gameplay.

In 11 (ELEVEN!!!) years, the game is still exactly the same, and its by a different company (PES is by Konami and Fifa is made by Electronic Arts)! For these two franchises (PES and Fifa) to cart out essentially the same game every year, but for some updated squads, and negligible changes to the gameplay itself, is really ripping its fans off, but I guess they will continue to do so as long as fans continue to pay for this regurgitated shite.

Anyways, I just wanted to spread the word that Fifa 14 SUCKS, for anyone that fortunately not purchased the game, hopefully I can save you your hard earned money. I am not in favour of PES, who knows, maybe that has become a far greater game in the past eleven years (highly doubt it) but something tells me its still exactly the same just like FIFA.

I'd like a replay of every offside, please
Fifa are only happy to oblige. Even though a bad offside decision is never, ever given in Fifa. I would like the gameplay to be regularly interrupted by a slow mo replay every single time an offside decision is given, just in case.

Co-op confusion
Need to defend against this winger bombing down the left hand side. I will perfectly position my centre back in order to cancel out the cross that he will surely whip in any second now... my player has automatically switched to my left back, no, change back. Goaalllll!
